“HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, YOUR HONOR”

The very existence of this problem angers me, and some veterans in the bankruptcy field. During a preliminary hearing in New York, a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge asked a lawyer for JPMorgan Chase how the bank had managed to sell consumer credit-card debts that had been discharged. “I don’t know who would buy a discharged account,” the perplexed judge said. The Chase lawyer responded, “Happens all the time, your honor.”

And if you are thinking that this scam is being perpetrated by fly-by-night gangsters who run their operations out of the basement of Tony Soprano’s social club…five of the companies in this business are publicly traded on NASDAQ.

Make sure to spread the word to anyone you know who has filed bankruptcy in the past!
