Dear Mark,
I think what you guys are doing at Avvo is pretty cool. In theory.
You buy lists that hopefully get you the name of every attorney in the U.S. and then populate your online directory with some of their personal and professional information. At a minimum…the information found on those lists.
Then you provide web based tools for each attorney to “claim” and hopefully complete their profile. Simple enough. Simple is good. Claiming and completing profile not so simple but you know that and I’m sure you have a plan in place to get you over that hurdle.
Not sure how many ”potential attorney clients” know this directory exists so pretty confident attorneys aren’t being AVVOlanched by new prospect inquiries right now but that’s a subject for another post.
Also, I’m not convinced that half-baked profile information is worth all that much when searching for professional advisors who will end up knowing my innermost secrets, wishes and desires along with most likely everything there is to know about me, my money, my family and my life. To me it’s sure not enough information to develop that initial level of trust and credibility I need but maybe to others it is.
