If this is your first time here – here’s the backstory!

NOTE: I’ve tried a couple of these pens over the years without much success. Doesn’t pick up everything exactly like it should – holding the pen is like holding a BIG, FAT Cuban cigar, which gets more than a little uncomfortable after a while. It just seemed more trouble than it was worth.

This pen adds a voice recorder which is pretty spiffy and continues with the you have to use special paper theme. I understand the need for the special paper but seems like it might be a hassle.

Does anyone have one of these Livescribe pens and have good things to say? Has anyone used one or bought one and returned it?

Would love some feedback!

Livescribe Honored with Prestigious
DEMOgod Award at DEMO 08

CEO and Founder Jim Marggraff makes a splash with the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen

OAKLAND, Calif. — February 15, 2008 - Livescribe, Inc. (http://www.livescribe.com/) today announced that founder and chief executive officer Jim Marggraff was presented with the DEMOgod award at the DEMO 08 Conference. The much coveted DEMOgod award is given to an elite group of presenters that demonstrate their product or service with style, passion and clarity in a six-minute on-stage live presentation in front of peers, press, analysts and venture capitalists.

Hundreds of companies were screened by DEMO executive producer Chris Shipley and a panel of industry experts to narrow this year’s list of presenters to 77 companies. Of those 77 companies, only 10 were selected as DEMOgod winners. To view Livescribe’s winning demonstration click here.

“DEMO gives every company, whether large or small, an equal opportunity to demonstrate its product or service. It has always been a forum where companies can’t hide behind PowerPoint presentations or canned demonstrations. Instead, presenters must rely on refined presentation skills in order to effectively showcase their technologies,” said Shipley. “Jim Marggraff and Livescribe were able to deliver an informative, powerful and entertaining demonstration that resonated with the audience. Livescribe has created more than just a nifty gadget. It has built a transformative platform that will change the way people capture, access and share information.”

While at DEMO, Livescribe introduced a new category of consumer electronics with its Pulse smartpen, as well as announced its open platform for developers.

“DEMO has a long reputation for spotlighting the best and most promising technology,” said Marggraff. “We are honored to be included not only as a presenter but also as a DEMOgod winner. We’ve spent years developing the Pulse platform, and this award serves as an amazing tribute to Livescribe and the team supporting it. Livescribe is evolving the act of writing from annotation-by-hand to the capture of ideas and meaning with animated ink and synchronized audio. Spoken and written information may now be accessed and shared in the digital world forever.”

Livescribe’s Pulse smartpen is a computer within a pen that captures handwriting and simultaneously records audio and synchronizes it to the writing. Users can simply tap on their notes to replay what was recorded from the exact moment they were writing. Further, Pulse is a general purpose computer with rich I/O capabilities and a Java development environment that enables a wide range of applications.
